| The Ryder Cup - Past to Present |

The Ryder Cup has been captivating audiences since 1927, when early encounters between the USA and the British & Irish team were fiercely competitive. After the Second World War, repeated dominance from the USA teams forced the British & Irish to look further afield for players from Europe. Since the change in teams in 1979, the matches have been far more competitive, with matches going to the wire. The 37th Ryder Cup in 2008 saw the USA team romp to victory at the Valhalla Golf Club, ending a previous hat-trick of victories by Europe. |

For the second year running; The 137th Open Championship was won by Pádraig Harrington.
