Further Education workforce reforms now in force in England

Regulations to professionalise the Further Education (FE) workforce that came into force in England on 1 September 2007 have been welcomed by the sector. Over 2,000 teachers and trainers have registered as members of the Institute for Learning (IfL) in the first week alone. Read more

Ministers presented with Standards for ITTTE in Wales

The development of new overarching Standards for teachers, tutors and trainers in the lifelong learning sector in Wales has been a notable success.

The Standards were completed by LLUK last month following comprehensive consultation and a final standards review panel. They are now with the Welsh Assembly Government awaiting Ministerial sign off.

First Award for new Quality Mark

Standards Verification UK has awarded the first Quality Mark in a newly extended scheme.

The Learning and Skills Development Agency Northern Ireland (LSDA NI) has successfully submitted a learning resource for Standards Verified status. Up to now, the Quality Mark has been limited to qualifications and learning programmes.

Scottish and Northern Ireland Archives surveys to reveal workforce data

Lifelong Learning UK is conducting surveys across the UK that will reveal more about staff working in archives and records management. The survey in Scotland was completed in late September and the results are now being studied. Fieldwork for the Northern Ireland study also began in late September. A similar study was completed in England in August. Read more

14-19 conferences announced in England

A series of five regional events across England on support for those delivering the forthcoming Diplomas for 14-19 year olds have been announced.

The events are being organised by Lifelong Learning UK (LLUK) and the Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA) as part of the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) 14 – 19 workforce development partnership.

New General Professional Recognition Scheme to be launched in England

The success of a Professional Recognition scheme for Skills for Life teachers in 2006/2007 has led to the launch of a wider ranging initiative. Standards Verification UK will be administering a new General Professional Recognition Scheme (GPRLS) on behalf of LLUK and funded by the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills Read more

Pivotal role for SSC's in Skills Strategy for Scotland

Lifelong Learning UK (LLUK) welcomes the publication today of Skills for Scotland, A Lifelong Skills Strategy that was announced earlier this month. It is a call for action from the Scottish Executive to ensure that the needs of both individuals and employers are met to ensure Scotland has a globally competitive economy now and in the future. At the forefront of working with the Voluntary and Community Sector’ – LLUK working with the VCS in the North of England

Learning and skills providers from the voluntary and community sector (VCS) across the North of England have contributed to LLUK’s Sector Skills Agreement (SSA). Providers from the North West, North East and Yorkshire and Humber met at Leeds Playhouse earlier this month. Read more
